19 People Experienced “Small World” Encounters

Camp… middle school or so, maybe younger. My cabin was full of bitches. There was this one gothy girl who was the nicest person there to me, so naturally I clinged to her like white on rice. She wasn’t really nice, and “dated” an asshole, and basically treated me like her lap dog, which I basically was. Years later, same camp, high school, like jr year. There was a girl in my cabin who was really preppy and wore a lot of pink. She says she remembers me, says she was in my cabin. I don’t remember her. but I say “Oh man, remember that pretentious gothy girl Anna?” Yup. It was her.

I was in Fallujah Iraq with a marine infantry unit. My squad was on a foot patrol when we heard a large explosion and massive gun fire. We took off running in the direction of contact. Go there to see a Humvee, belonging to an engineers company that was working in the city too, half blown to sh*t and 4 marines inside taking heavy fire. We laid down suppressive fire and drove off the insurgents. This was 2 days before Christmas. Fast forward to 6 years later, at a party for a friend. Meet a fellow marine. Naturally, we start drinking and talking about our experiences. We first find out that we were in Fallujah at the same time. After another hour of talking, he tells me about the day, right before Christmas, that he almost died and how other marines saved his life.

Ran into an elementary school crush while on the Small World ride in Disneyland. Admitted said crush to her, most awkwardly creepy ride in my life. I was 18 at the time though so everything at that age was awkward.

I was buying books at my college bookstore and when I pulled out my Visa the guy looked at it and said “I know that last name”. He gave me a first name, wanted to know if I knew the guy. Yes, it’s my dad. Turns out he was in Vietnam with my dad in 1959, they were in the same unit, lived in the same house.

My high school class travelling around Europe ran into a girl that used to go to school with us all in junior high in southern France. The really eerie part is that we found out she died in a car wreck back in the states before we were even done with our trip.
