These 23 People Unknowingly Said Their Last Words to Someone

“Good night, dad”. I had just handed his fathers day present to him in ’09. Can’t remember why it was so late I did that. I gave him a hug and went to bed. The next day I was waiting to be called down for tea and dad was running late and mum was getting hacked off that tea was gonna burn. Next thing we know the police were walking up the drive and they informed us that my dad had a massive heart attack while driving a lorry on the motorway. The last thing he did was get onto the hard shoulder so that he wouldn’t crash into any other vehicle. Amazing really that he thought to do that. He was only 45 and there was no warning that this was on the way. It kills me to think he died alone.

“I’ll call you soon, I promise!” I was traveling through Europe, was busy and distracted, and this was back when international cell phone calls were ridiculously expensive. This was how I ended and MSN conversation with my best friend back home. She OD’d a couple weeks later. I know it wouldn’t have made a difference, she had a lot of issues that didn’t come out until after her death but I wish I’d called her and had one last proper chat.

“I love you, drive safe” less than an hour before having a drunk driver slam into him head on. He probably would have lived if he had his seatbelt on. Now instead of telling people “drive safe,” I say “wear your seatbelt!”
