29 Awkward Childhood Memories People Can’t Forget

Once I held the hand of a strange woman as we walked into Walmart, thinking the entire time she was my mother.

The first day of 1st grade I went to my old Kindergarten class.

There was that time I thought a random little girl was my sister and pinched her arm.

When I was a kid, I was REALLY stupid. And loved animals. You know how dogs bark out the windows when people pass by? Well, I love dogs, and wanted to play with them. So I would go the the door, LET MYSELF IN, and proceed to play with the dogs. Many a neighbor would come downstairs to find a little kid calmly sitting on the carpet, petting their dog. Mom’s stranger danger lessons only lead to me not giving my name. I’d continue to pet the dog, only stopping to tell the frantic owner how pretty their dog was. Luckily, some family member would be screaming for me on the streets, and I’d announce I had to go home now.

When I was in grade 1, I had a big crush on a sixth grader who volunteered a lot with us younger kids. On a field trip, one of the bullies in my grade told him that I was in love with him in front of everyone. And the angel that he was, he came over and comforted me as I cried from embarrassment. I still didn’t have the courage to speak to him so he asked me questions and I would just sit there, shocked. Then he left and gave me a hug and a little peck on the cheek and called me cute. I ran to the bathroom and vomited EVERYWHERE. Then, because I got sick, word got around and he came back and comforted me. Again. As I cried. Again. He sat and waited with me while I waited for my parents to pick me up. It was cold and he gave me his jacket. I think it might still be lying somewhere in storage.
