Chili was spent time training to find the pepper weevils while playing a game, according to her trainer, Heide. A sort of dog toy, the Kong, is filled with these bugs and it’s then Chili’s turn to find them and be rewarded. All the while Chili is “playing” she’s really working to find all of those bugs that have ravaged the bell pepper crops. Isn’t that all any of us ever want in life, to play and work at the same time?
Tina says of working with Chili, “I like working with animals. It was a bit up and down at first, as we both had to get used to each other’s little quirks and habits. But I’m now very comfy with Chili.” The two now walk around the 50 plus hectares of the greenhouse sniffing out the tiny enemies of the bell peppers.
