And it looks like Chili wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s gained notoriety for being the first dog to be trained in this skill. The American Working Dog Association certified Chili as the first dog to carry out “pest-related scent detection on a farm” — which allows her to move freely among the pepper plants without any food safety concern.

And thanks to Chili, so many farms and farmers in Ontario have now decided to take biological precautions in protecting their crops. Pesticides are being used less since they’ve decided that battling their enemies is better done with the help of furry friends instead.
