GQ magazine dropped its August issue on Tuesday, the cover of which features a swimsuit-clad Kylie Jenner perched on the knee of her husband and baby daddy, rapper Travis Scott. Like anything else that pertains to the Kardashian-Jenners, the cover caused quite a social media frenzy and a slew of mixed feelings.
Prominent among those was the question of why Travis is dressed in a power suit when Kylie has on a bathing suit. Considering Kylie’s general ~vibe~ this discrepancy would probably have been ignored; But her appearance on the cover of Forbes Magazine just last week as the world’s soon-to-be youngest “self-made” billionaire had people feeling like maybe GQ should’ve reversed the couple’s positions. Like maybe the magazine should’ve had Travis Scott sit on Kylie’s business-suited lap instead.
To this, many retorted that A) Kylie probably chose her look, considering how in line it is with her regular style and appearance, and B) nudity does not always mean giving up power. A few people also drew parallels between the GQ cover and Vanity Fair’s infamous 2007 Sopranos cover, as well as YES Magazine’s 1978 cover featuring Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. Although lest we forget, people were certainly still pissed about the former. (The latter was too early in the century for people to care about blatant “sexism” on magazine covers. Especially in Spain.)
The GQ feature on Kylie and Travis, penned by the ultra-talented Mark Anthony Green, is an interesting read in that it provides a rare glimpse into the mind of Kylie Jenner. But you’ll have to head over there to read the entire story. In the meantime, we’ll be watching this insane video of Kylie quizzing Travis on his knowledge of her. Just….wow.
