What It’s Like To Cut A Family Member Out of Your Life

I cut my father out of my life & didn’t speak to him for years. Then only because he had a heart attack, lost his job, & his cunt of a wife died, I gave him a call. It was a waste of time. He was still the BS artist that he always was. He called at 2am, drunk a few weeks later & I told him to never call me again. He died not long after, & that was 20 years ago & I have NEVER regretted my choices.

My FiancĂ© cut off almost all of her mother’s side of the family because she said they were all narcissists, egotistical, manipulators. She uses these descriptions of them to justify why she cut them out of her life, along with various experiences shes had with them in the past, and she doesn’t feel guilty about it at all. This is her own experience as others will have it differently. But she said as soon as she did so, her life has been much better all around.

Remember it’s better this way. You’re happier without them and you deserve to be happy. Not the same situation, but I keep them at a distance, only see and talk to them 2 or 3 times a year and at least once a year they help me remember why I made that decision. I would cut them off if I could but I’d lose some people I want to keep in my life if I did that. Bottom line is, there’s a reason you cut them off. They won’t change. You did what’s best for you. Just remember that.
