I met a guy my age while playing on xbox. At first we were just friends, playing together every night. Eventually he asked for my number and we texted all the time. We decided to enter a LDR, which was exciting because I had developed feelings for him and I couldn’t wait to see him. We set a date, but it fell through. After two more months, he ‘cheated’ on me with a girl who he would come to marry. He also confessed to sleeping with another girl when our relationship was at it’s peak. I was devastated, but moved on. (I should mention we were 800 miles apart)

I dated my girlfriend for a while at school before we were separated. Now she is in Russia for a year and afterwards might move back to her home in France. But, it works. It helps if you were already dating for a while before the separation. But really as long as both of know what you are getting into and are committed to talking everyday or every other day, it won’t be too too bad. Lack of sex is a bit of a bummer but if you can’t get over that, you probably aren’t the type of person to even try it.
