The Spice Girls Are Officially Reuniting For A Tour, But There’s A Catch

For years, the UK pop group from the ’90s–The Spice Girls–have been discussing a possible reunion and tour. While many have been on the edge of their seat when photos of the girls reuniting pop up on social media, fans have been disappointed time and time again when no tour and no reunion was announced.

But, last year, the girls all made a statement about the political climate–that now, more than ever, the world needed a bit of “girl power” back. And, with that statement, everyone was convinced that they were coming back. Then, rumors of tour dates began to pop up in the media spotlight and before we knew it, platform boots and UK flags were being pulled out of all ’90s girls basements. It was an emotional back and forth of will they or won’t they.

However, fans can rest easy knowing that it’s not official that The Spice Girls are reuniting and going on a UK tour. The girl group announced their official tour dates with a clever and adorable video on Twitter this week.

While the news of the tour has many fans jumping up and down with joy–there are a few catches. The first is that the tour is strict across the UK for now–a six-stadium tour–which means that fans over in the states may not have the opportunity to ‘Say You’ll Be There’ (punny, I know). The other catch is that Posh Spice–Victoria Beckham–will not be joining the girls on tour. Beckham has been open about her hesitancies performing and singing live and has been focusing solely on her booming fashion line. She did, however, send a special shout-out to her girls in an Instagram post saying:

Today marks a special day for the girls as they announce the first tour dates since we performed together in 2012! I won’t be joining my girls on stage again but being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish them so much love and fun as they go back on tour next year. I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!

While some fans are disappointed that Beckham won’t be there, there are those who are optimistic that she will make a return to the stage once or twice–even if she doesn’t perform on the entire tour. Since the news broke online, Twitter has been nothing but excited.

Even singer Adele was excited about the tour, posting this super hilarious and relatable TBT photo rocking out to The Spice Girls in her room.
