A Jump Scare Teaser For ‘The Nun’ Is So Freaking Terrifying, YouTube Banned It

One of 2018’s most anticipated horror flicks is The Nun, the latest trailer for which is so freaking scary, YouTube was forced to take it down.

Set to premiere next month, the fifth installment of The Conjuring series (the first four being The Conjuring, two creepy Annabelle doll movies, and The Nurse) will, like its predecessors, features many a jump scare.

Though the horror film highbrows will thumb their noses at this scare tactic, they can’t argue that it is hella effective. Which brings us back to the trailer in question, which is more like a promotional ad in that it does less to tease and more to tantalize, albeit in the most uncomfortable way possible.

The 6-second clip begins with a black screen on which the volume/sound emoji is Photoshopped — meant to trick the unaware viewer into believing their volume controls are wonky — and ends with that freakin nun loudly jump-scaring the bejeezus out of you.

Twitter user @bbydvas got got by the jump scare, and issued a PSA which racked up a grateful 137,000 retweets. “WARNING! If you see an ad on youtube with the volume sign being turned down and nothing else, ITS A JUMPSCARE for the new NUN movie coming out,” reads the tweet.

“i advise you look away and/or turn down the volume if you have anxiety or just straight up hate jumpscares, pls rt to save a life.” Due to the backlash, YouTube’s official Twitter account released a statement explaining that the ad violated their “shocking content policy.”

Clearly, nun of those who viewed the video were too stoked on The Nun.

If you’re curious about what the full-length trailer for The Nun looks like, look no farther. No promises re: jump scares, though.

The Nun hits theaters nationwide on September 6.
