Netflix’s new teen romance To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has quickly become a veritable cult favorite, spawning memes, tweets, and obsessions with Lara Jean Song Covey’s outfits galore.
The show’s success is due in part to the way it dabs a fresh take on the tired teen romance genre—It is objectively sweet without leaving a bad taste in the mouth, balancing a genuine wholesomeness with the film tropes it can’t help but hit in both character and structure.
What’s more, it only works because the protagonists of the film—played by Lana Condor and Noah Centineo—have an undeniable chemistry both on- and offscreen. Onscreen, because, duh:

But, as BuzzFeed pointed out, this tale of true and fictional romance somehow—somehow—gets even more heartwarming. It has to do with Lara Jean’s lock screen on the show, which is a picture of her sleeping atop Peter. The audience is never shown where the picture is taken in the film, and director Susan Johnson recently revealed why.
Speaking with ET Online, Johnson explained the photo’s origin story, and it’s seriously too much to handle.
“I can tell you. I don’t think this will blow any magic in telling you what happened with that. That was actually one of our crew members who took that photo. The two of them were in the green room on set at the high school location, in the area where we put the actors. They actually were sleeping on the couch in that room like that, so we just stood over them and took that picture and it’s so friggin’ cute. So yeah, we just borrowed it from our crew member. (Laughs.) There wasn’t [a scene]. I could make something up but I actually think it’s cute that they hang out like that.”
