In high school, I took an AP calculus class. I barely passed the AP test, but it could still count as college credit. At college orientation a few months later, my academic advisor convinced me to utilize that credit and skip the first two calc classes, despite my protests that I didn’t think I understood calculus enough to do so. I wish I’d been more strong-willed, because I took her advice and attempted Calculus III my freshman semester. I failed terribly, my other classes suffered because I spent so much time trying to pass calculus, and I ended up on academic probation after the semester.
