17 Couples That Abstained from Sex Until Marriage Share Their Stories

Wife and I were a virgin-virgin couple when we got married. When wedding night came it took over an hour to get her hair undone from all of the bobby pins. She was crying by the end of it…I don’t know why, but I remember it was really painful. Once I was done we laid down and there was a little petting before I moved to a missionary position. My wife immediately tensed up and told me to stop after insertion. I stopped and we talked a bit and she agreed we could continue. It hurt her…a lot. This continued for days. Then weeks. Lube and foreplay helped very little. I curiously measured myself, and found out my above average girth and her below average internal pliability and narrow opening made intimacy difficult for us. For years. Eventually we decided to have a child. After childbirth, and subsequent recovery, we were able to enjoy sex more readily. Occasionally there is still wincing, but only if I go too fast. Now, I’m a firm believer in try before you buy. Not that my wife and I don’t love each other, or that would have been a total deal breaker, it would have certainly saved us some stressful times and bitterness if we had known what we were getting into pre-marriage.

Were both virgins upon marriage. Married 4.5 years. We’re Christians. In fact, I’m a pastor. I will testify to say that the stereotype of Christians not enjoying sex, seeing it as bad, etc., does not fit our bill…we enjoy it quite often. I wouldn’t change anything, as we have learned together and shared a lot of fun, intimate moments that have made our marriage so much better.

I have a friend who just recently got married and they were both virgins. He told me that the fact they stayed virgins, after they got married they are learning things together. Their sex life is an team work exploration rather than one person knowing too much and waiting for the partner to catch on
