17 Travelers Share Their Most Unforgettable Road Trips

I was road tripping alone to New Orleans for Thanksgiving and left early in the morning at 5AM. At one point, around 7AM, a rainstorm picked up really quickly and I had my cruise control on but I turned it off too late.. My car started hydroplaning, then my car spun out three times, and I landed in the ditch on the side of the higway.. Luckily there were only two other cars on the road and I managed to get out and check on my car at a gas station nearby.

My best friend and I drove from LA to Austin in 24 hrs straight.. Delirious and tired, we were made it to West Texas, driving 100 mph trying to get to the next town with a gas station to use the restroom. A cop pulled me over for speeding and I was shaking outta my boots bc we had just bought a new bong in California. He questioned both of us, our stories matched up, gave me a ticket, and we drove the speed limit all the way to Austin.. To smoke a bowl and pass out as soon as got there.

Last summer, my friend is feeling ‘spontaneous’. He gives this big long speech about “80s movies” and “living in the moment” and all sorts of stuff. He tries to get a bunch of people to do something with him that night. Ends up just being me and him. We pick a direction (North) and begin driving with no real destination. After some chit-chatting, my friend sees a billboard and immediately begins driving to Lake Tahoe. It was about 11:30pm when we started and Tahoe is like… 4 hours from where I live. So, 4 hours later we end up in Tahoe and gamble a bit. Both of us end up winning, ~$100 each. I didn’t sleep for 30some hours.
