17 Travelers Share Their Most Unforgettable Road Trips

Once my family went on a cross country trip and one night we decided to camp out in a national park. Well during the night my dad sees a spider and kills it. The kicker? He finds out from a group of people that they had been looking for a very rare spider that entire summer, and it was the one he just killed.

I recently was in Detroit for an assistant manager training class. We got lost in all of the Michigan construction (because this state sucks with roads,) and on the way home the driver’s car stopped working. On the side of the highway. In Detroit. And my coworker had to use the restroom very badly. So she did… it got on my shoe.

Me and 4 other friends had done a road trip to NYC over Spring break around ’09. We spent a few days in New York and last minute they decided to go to Spring training for baseball in Florida. Because of this we had to drive nonstop and switched off drivers and “co-pilots”. It was my turn to drive at like 3a.m. on the highway. Slowly I see headlights coming towards me and something seems off, but I kind of shrug it off because there’s cars all of the time on the other side of the highway. For some reason I keep feeling strange about this car. Finally, my co-pilot says “that car is on the wrong side of the road” in the calmest voice, like it’s nothing important. It then hits me that this car is on the wrong side of the highway and in my lane, coming right at us. When it is about 3 car lengths away, I swerve the car into the other lane and avoid a head-on collision going about 65mph.
