17 TV Show Employees Reveal Disgusting Behind The Scene Details

I’ve worked on quite a few reality shows and the level of staged-ness depends on the content/production company. Hoarding was not stage but situations were set up that could lead to drama. However, all the hoards were 100% real and horrifying.

I used to be a transcriber for Hoarders. The only time I had to take a break from the footage was an old lady who hoarded her own shit. There was a scene where she was scooping liquid shit out of a bucket and into another then dumped it outside. She had feces all over her hands and arms and proceeded to make a sandwich in the kitchen right after.

I have a friend who works on reality shows, including “What’s Eating You,” another version of “My Strange Addiction.” What I found interesting is that they do psychological evaluations of people before putting them on the show. And people fail…a lot. He was doing a survival-type show and apparently they were really struggling to find appropriate cast because too many people who met the criteria to be on the show also failed the psych test.
