These 17 Wedding Photographers Dealt With Crappy Clients

Around 7 years ago, I was doing charity weddings still. Long story short, we showed up and things seemed a little off. Things were pretty well done up. As we walked up to the house another man pulled up and waved hello. “Hey!” he said. “Who are you?” We’re the photographers. “Oh? Me too!” Oh. Do you know the couple? Are you a family friend or in the family? “No, I asked to shoot their wedding on Craigslist.” Excellent. We met the couple. They pulled us aside and explained that we were the real photographer. Ah. I see now. Because the other guy with the pro gear is here for more free pictures I suppose. I walked around and talked to the vendors. All getting paid. Hmm. Hung around, shot a little and left. I’m sure the other photographer had it under control.

I’ve been asked many times by friends so that they can “save some money.” I calmly explain that what they’re asking is hundreds to thousands of dollars of work for virtually nothing. There are going to be family and friends around that I will want to socialize with, and that is guaranteed to translate to me missing those perfect moments. Everyone who has asked me has been surprised at just how much actual work and gear cost goes in to a quality wedding photography package.

I showed up to the reception after liking my time with the Bride and Groom, and found that the family and friends were all assholes. They were physically aggressive toward us, thought they were funny when they threw stuff at us, and verbally assaulted us at every turn.
