19 Hotel Workers Admit the Craziest Thing They’ve Found in a Room

Up until maybe four years ago, I exclusively worked in hotels and the service industry. Hotels are a different kind of beast that most people will never fully understand. There’s some things that hotel workers have experienced and seen that are unforgettable, especially the one’s that deal with customers face to face.

But probably the people that have the worst of it are the people that have to clean up after guests have left their hotel rooms. Somehow, guests think that staying in a hotel room constitutes their weirdo behavior to surface and that they’d be easily forgiven, no matter what.

I had an ex-boyfriend flood an entire bathroom since he drunkenly fell asleep with the bathtub running while I was asleep in bed. When I woke up in the middle of the night to see him drunk and asleep in a flooded bathroom, I freaked the f*ck out and was overly embarrassed when the hotel checked on us the next day. I immediately confessed that what had happened the night before and they told me that it had affected the room downstairs. I don’t know how I got out of trouble (maybe because I was genuinely sorry and offered to pay whatever damages were done) but somehow we left that five star hotel without repercussions. Lesson learned: don’t date a**holes that ruin your trip at a fancy hotel and learn to put yourselves in the shoes of the people that have to clean up after you.

These 19 hotel workers discovered the craziest things in hotel rooms:

1.

Dead body. We noticed a smell on a Saturday, but we’d been having problems with our central air system and didn’t think about it. Come Monday one hall smelled horrible. A maid grabbed all the managers when she tried to open a room and smelled something crazy. He’d been dead in there like three days, but he’d had a chain on the door and we can’t cut it until the Do Not Disturb has been on the door at least two days at our hotel. I will NEVER forget that smell. We had to replace carpet, the bed, paint the ceiling, everything. Ugh.

2.

Gay Mexican orgy. I heard the housekeeper screaming from the lobby 3 stories below. Ran upstairs to figure out what the hell was going on; they didn’t stop.

3.

I work at the front desk of a hotel so I don’t personally see much, but I always talk with our housekeeping. We’re a pretty small boutique hotel so we don’t honestly see any horrible sh*t, but one group did manage to smother half the room with vomit. They had twin beds and put the garbage can in the middle of the beds. Well, they must have missed every f*cking time because there was puke on the beds, the floor around the trash can, all over the floor in the bathroom.

4.

I’ve worked at a hotel for two years, and let’s just say that the hotel I work at has very “interesting” guests. I’m not a maid, I’m the houseman and I’m in charge of the laundry room. Among the worst things I’ve encountered are an aborted fetus on the toilet, and a dead rat in another room. There was also this one woman who left her ferret and never came back. 🙁
