19 People Experienced “Small World” Encounters

When I was 18, I had a hot and very long one night stand with this guy I never even knew the name of. They called him Bacardi at the party, so that’s what I referred to him as. Fast forward 5 years when I’m at a Blue Jays and Angels baseball game sitting in the players family section with my then boyfriend when a run gets scored and the crowd goes wild. The row in front of us stands up and starts high fiving the rows around us when the guy in front of us turns around to high five and we lock eyes. It was him! What are the odds in a stadium full of 45,000 people I’d be sitting behind a guy I had a wild night with 5 years ago.

I was in a summer study abroad program and it turned out that two of the faculty had been involved in a love triangle 35-40 years previous that resulted in one of them getting divorced. They did not meet until we got to the program and one of them put two and two together.

I flew into New Orleans and headed to the nearest bar while I waited for friends’ flights to arrive. Wound up striking up a conversation with the guy next to me. Turned out he had missed his flight to Denver because he was too drunk. Today at a casino, someone yells out my name and it’s him. Dude got drunk and missed his flight again, so he decided to play some blackjack.

My friends just happened to run into a high-school classmate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. We went to High school in Texas.

While I was stationed in West Germany, I was on the train from Darmstadt to Frankfurt am Mainz and ran into a guy I’d gone to Jr. High with. We ended up hanging out that night in Alt Saxenhausen and turns out he’d ended up getting hitched to a girl we’d gone to Jr. High with, so 2 for the price of one as it were.
