We all love a scary story. Even if you’re one of those people that can’t sit through a scary movie, we are all eager to hear tales of true crimes, even if they make you uncomfortable.

But imagine living through something out of a Stephen King novel? Something so horrific that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It doesn’t even seem real, because nothing like this happens in real life, right?

Wrong. Bad, creepy AF, things happen to people all the time. Seriously, where do you think people get the ideas for scary books and movies? FROM REAL LIFE EVENTS. Sure, people’s imaginations play a big role, but it all starts from somewhere or stems from something.

The following 21 people walked straight into a horror movie. Seriously, the sh*t these people saw or went through it beyond creepy, and I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy (I take that back, damn you Patrice!). So if any of these things start to happen to you, run away and never look back.

These 21 people experienced real life horror stories:

1.

I was driving a shortcut in the desolate high desert east of LA. I am driving north through a canyon with high grass on bot sides of the road. Up ahead I see some stuff in the middle of the road. As I approach I slow down to see a car stopped sideways across both lanes & 2 bodies laying face down in the road. I stop 100 feet away & the hair on the back of my neck stands up. Something seemed very wrong, it looked too perfect as if it were staged. I decided to just go around it & keep going. I continued forward a couple hundred feet & slowed down so I could breathe. As I looked up into the rear-view mirror I saw that the 2 bodies had gotten up to their knees & 20 or so people emerged from the tall grass. I got the F out of there.

2.

I was 11 & home alone when the doorbell rang. It was a mailman, who told me that we had gotten a package, but it was big so he needed help carrying it. I asked where his truck was & he said it was around the corner. He kept telling me to open the door, but I said I wasn’t allowed to leave the house & that we would pick up the box from the post office. He was telling me how much of a hassle that would be for my mom. I told him that I’d come outside, but I had to get my shoes. I closed the door, locked it, & then ran & called my neighbor & yelled that she had to come over ASAP. Then I stood at the locked front & stared at him. He yelled through asking if I found my shoes, & I said that I called my neighbor to help carry it. He turned & ran.

3.

When we were around 7 my friends and I would go play at the park near my house. We lived in a really secluded area. It was starting to get dark so we all started heading home. I would take a path behind the ball fields while everyone else would go right out the parking lot into the street to head home. I got to the furthest point of the park where a side street leading to the street I lived on when a middle aged man started walking towards me. I could see his SUV parked on the side of the road, he called out to me asking if I wanted to see his new puppies in the back. I said no because I needed to get home before it got really dark. Years later I had a “holy shit” moment when I realized I could’ve gotten kidnapped.

4.

My friend & I were driving around the country. We were in the middle of no where & only cow fields were in sight. Up ahead the tree line on the left started thinning out as we could easily see another road that ran perpendicular into ours. A white truck was suddenly visible. As soon as the truck came into view, a pistol’s gunfire shot out of the driver’s side aimed into the ditch. The truck was far away enough that I couldn’t tell if he was shooting at anything, but no matter because his reverse lights came on to intercept us. I floored it. The truck flew in reverse up his road onto ours & began shooting at us. Bullets were flying all through the trees. We broke every single traffic law in the hour & a half it took to get back home.
