I was up late reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Exactly as the clock struck midnight, I noticed a shadow flicker across the room. It was a bat, but it was just a normal bat, not a vampire. Sometimes, I think about what would have happened if I had been reading Moby Dick.

My best friend’s mother growing up told me a story that I have never ever been able to forget. They have a good amount of mental illness in their family, and when she was a little girl she had to go visit her grandmother at the asylum pretty often. On one of these visits, while walking down the hall to her grandmother’s room, she heard a strange noise come out of one of the rooms. When she turned to look, she saw a woman sitting on her bed. The woman had pulled her eyes out of their sockets and they were just hanging there. She screamed and was rushed away, and never went back. Flat out refused, said she had nightmares for years.

I was lying in bed with my wife on my left. I was almost asleep, then I felt a slight chill on my right side, & heard some sort of weird slow whispering that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. My eyes darted around the very poorly lit room by noone was there. The next morning my wife mentions a very strange dream. She told me “I dreamed I was lying in bed next to you, in our apartment just like normal, except I was awake. I felt a strange presence so I looked up &, standing at the foot of the bed was my friend Adam. He looked at both of us, then crawled up onto the bed & started whispering in your right ear. I thought it was a really weird dream.” Her friend Adam killed himself about 6 months prior.
