When you’re in a serious conversation, and they start texting. I can’t be the only one who likes mutual attention when having a serious talk.

The brother of a friend was a little “too” friendly with his mom and his mom was a little too overprotective of him. He was interested in me and I thought he was cute but his mom would make weird, physical claims on him whenever I was around. He was late twenties by that time. Once, when I was over at their house, she hugged him from behind when he was setting the table, and she said something in their language which, when my friend translated, was that she’d never approve of him dating a Chinese girl. My friend brushed it off and didn’t think anything of it nor did she think it was directed at me (I’m Chinese). That got too weird for me and I declined all of the dates he asked me out on later. He was real good looking too but… sorry, I don’t think that’s appropriate behavior for a mother but what do I know,

I dated a guy who baby talked me constantly and called crab cakes “crabby cakes” every single time and it was infuriatingly annoying.

He would only eat chicken strips when we went to dinner and he didn’t know who Simon and Garfunkel were.
