7. Eastern State Penitentiary
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Gotta have at least one prison on the list!
If the medieval torture devices aren’t creepy enough, the echoing laughter, darting shadows, and visions of ghostly faces might do it for ya.
The place was – and still is – lit by natural light alone, so it gets scarily dark at night. Go when there’s no moon, if you’re really feeling brave.
8. The Queen Mary
Long Beach, California
This ship was built as a luxury ocean liner, but it was converted to a wartime vessel at the beginning of WWII. Now, it’s a tourist attraction.
People visit in the hopes of meeting one of the 150 spirits that haunt the boat. Most were victims of the war, but 49 of them died on the ship within the last 60 years. Creepy!
9. Calcasieu Courthouse
Lake Charles, Louisiana
It took three trials to convict Toni Jo Henry, who killed a man in cold blood. That adds up to a lot of time in the courthouse, and some say, she never left.
At least not alive – since she was the first woman to be executed in the electric chair. Workers say they still hear her screams and smell her hair burning.
