Matthew McConaughey Apparently Wanted To Play ‘Jack’ In Titanic Really, Really Bad

When it comes to classic movies, Titanic is definitely up there are one of the most iconic films of its time. The romantic drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet has been spoken of, over the years, as being not only ambitious but brilliant in its directing and casting. Why?

Well, it’s no secret that Leo and Kate had some pretty juicy on-screen chemistry. In fact, the two have been pretty much inseparable ever since they filmed the movie–as friends, of course. But, over the years, they’ve remained in each other’s lives pretty much the same way we all hoped Jack and Rose would (despite Rose letting him freeze to death).

It’s clear that no one could have played Jack better than our boy Leo, despite not getting an Oscar for the job. But, apparently, there was another Oscar-hungry actor looking to score the role of Jack beside Leo. And, he’s still salty AF that he didn’t get the role.

That’s right, our boy Matthew McConaughey auditioned for the role of Jack in Titanic–and he was pretty convinced he was going to score the lead role. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McConaughey said:

I went and auditioned for that. I wanted that. I auditioned with Kate Winslet. Had a good audition. Walked away from there pretty confident that I had it.

But, turns out, he was wrong. He didn’t get offered the role and lost out to Leo. But, he did do well in the audition–so much so that he read lines with Winslet. And, the poor guy really wanted that role (who wouldn’t?!?)

But, not everyone could see Mr. Alright, Alright, Alright matching up with Leo’s skills in the movie. In fact, people online were turned off by the idea altogether.

Sorry, Matty boy–maybe next time.
