I had a nice LDR experience even though we didn’t make it. It wasnt anything to do with the distance. He just stopped putting in effort (calling, texting or making plans) which would have happened even if we were in the same city. That was just part of his personality. I got to travel a lot, we were able to explore different countries together and it was a great romantic chapter in my life. Would I do it again? Sure. Any negative experience I had while in the relationship was because of my partner and not necessarily the distance element itself.

I dated a girl locally my senior year. Kept it going when I went to college the next year 3 hours away. Kept it going when she left for college the next year 6 hours away. Kept it going for a total of about 5 years confident that we were the exception to the long distance rule. Then she made out with some other guy, broke up with me for him, and insisted it was all my fault for not paying enough attention to her in spite of our nightly phone conversations.
