It was pretty awful and we knew it would be temporary. We survived but barely. I would never do it again unless it was like a “I’ll be on tour for 3 months max” kind of thing. Not worth it. For my life and how I want to use my energy it makes no sense for me to have a partner I can’t actually be with. A relationship that feels mostly theoretical isn’t enough for me, I’d rather be single.

Before my wife and I got married we spent approximately a year apart while I was in college and she wasn’t – we were about 12 hours driving distance apart (though only one time zone apart). I equate it to any major change two people in a relationship go through. It’s very difficult, but it will ultimately reinforce a strong relationship and end a weak one. If you both want to make it work and you’re compatible enough with each other, it will work.

I was living in Florida and met someone in Seattle while I was out there for a vacation. We had a little fling, both knowing that nothing would ever happen between us. Well, we were wrong. Lots of talking on the phone, and eventually I was traveling cross country once a month. 6 Months later we made sure that it stopped being a LDR, moved in together, and we just celebrated our 5th anniversary.

Went out with a girl for 3 years, I loved her to pieces. She moved about 4 hours away for university. We said we would work together to make our relationship work and I would move to where she was after I went back to school. We broke up 2 months after she left.
