Unfortunately, all women are sexually harassed. Whether it happens every once in a while or constantly, that is a different story. But, without a doubt, every single woman has and will experience sexual harassment.
Women get catcalled, harassed by employers, and made to feel uncomfortable and insecure in their own skin on a day-to-day basis. And then some people take it a step further, and sexual harassment turns into sexual assault. Alarmingly, 321,500 people are sexually assaulted in the United States annually, and every 98 seconds, a person is sexually assaulted.
Of that 321,500, 15% are between the ages of 12 and 17. This statistic is as alarming as it is unsurprising. Many women experience their first taste of sexual harassment at a young age, like the following 25 women. All of these women experienced their first case of sexual harassment before the age of 17, and the harassment hasn't stopped as they've aged.
The following experiences are incredibly alarming and upsetting. Please, take care of yourself. Remember that even if you experience casual sexual harassment (like catcalling) on a day to day basis, never normalize the experience. It is never okay and never should be.
